Our Partner for Advanced Medical Needs
Located in Jos, Nigeria, the Evangel Vesico-Vaginal Fistula Center (EVVF) is led by experienced Nigerian surgeon Dr. Sunday Lengmang, and is dedicated to the work to end the suffering of women with fistula in Nigeria. The center is building a reputation as a location for fine surgeon training, serving a steady stream of doctors. In 2018 the surgeons under Dr. Sunday Lemgang performed over 300 cases of Vesico-Vaginal Fistula repair—condition where the bladder forms a pathway to the vagina. It is caused by prolonged labor or the rape of young girls.
Most of our efforts pertaining to this program involve studying new approaches and developing innovative ways to implement them. We evaluate our success in this field by gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and using that information to measure shifts and changes from our baseline measurements.
We see every challenge as an opportunity. Every woman comes into the program with a desire to be self-sufficient. We train them in new job skills, small animal husbandry and advanced farming techniques. We are invested in an innovative approach that empowers our community and delivers the support they need, when they need it.
Through partnership with Bingham University Hospital, we have the potential to make a real and positive change in the community. This is one of our key areas of focus here at Nigerian Widows Relief Fund, and a source of much success for our NGO.
